Jalen Hurts receives record contract extension with Eagles according to sources

Philadelphia’s star quarterback became the highest-paid player in NFL history

The Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts have agreed to a $255 million, five-year contract extension, including $179.304 million guaranteed, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN this Monday.

Hurts’ deal is the most lucrative in NFL history, surpassing the $230 million contract Deshaun Watson signed last year with the Cleveland Browns. However, Watson’s deal is fully warranted.

Hurts’ extension includes a no-trade clause, the first in Eagles history, a source told Schefter.

The Eagles announced Monday that they had signed Hurts to a five-year extension, but did not disclose financial terms.

The 24-year-old Hurts was an NFL MVP candidate last season, passing for 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns to six interceptions while rushing for 760 yards and 13 scores.

He showed tremendous growth as a passer in his second season as a full-time starter, jumping from No. 19 (54.6) to No. 4 (66.4) in QBR and from No. 26 (61.3 percent) to No. 11 (66.5 percent). percent) in completion percentage, while decreasing his average time before throwing from 3.12 seconds (No. 31) to 2.76 seconds (No. 16) on average.
