“If Djokovic doesn’t play, better”

David Ferrer is the new captain of the Spanish team of Davis cupwhere he will debut in his new position at the September 12 to 17 in Valencia. In the group phase, he will integrate the CWith Serbia, the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea. After meeting his rivals, the former tennis player was asked at a press conference about the presence or not of Novak Djokovic (2nd in the world ranking), in the Serbian cast.

“If Djokovic doesn’t play, better. I have never said that I wanted to face the best. When I played and reached a final, I always said that if I didn’t have to face one of the ‘Big 3’ (Novak, Nadal and Federer), the better. The pity is that one of the three was always“, he declared in a relaxed tone.

“Serbia is the rival to beat, not only because of Nole, but because it has great players like Lajovic Krajinovic or Djere and a good double”, he elaborated and then referred to a team: “Spain has players to win the Davis Cup, but in the end there are many things that do not depend on me”.

After this, Ferrer couldn’t help but talk about Rafael Nadal: “With Rafa everything is very easy, I hope he can count on him. He’s already training quite intensely and I think he’ll be ready for the clay season. I’ve been a Davis player and this competition has given me so much, it was clear to me that to accept the position I had to have the OK of all the players. I know them all and I know what they can give on the court”.

With Ferru at the helm, the Spanish team will try to be one of the eight classified for the Finals, which will take place from November 21 to 26, and will be entered by the first and second of the four groups.
