Antwerp celebrates after the cup win – and the future number 5 cheers along. The triumph of the Great Old also has an impact on European tickets. Which place now entitles you to participate in the Champions League, the Europa League or the Conference League?
distribution of European tickets | |
---|---|
1e | Champions League: third qualifying round |
2e | Champions League: second qualifying round |
3e | Conference League: second qualifying round* |
4e/5e | Conference League: second qualifying round |
cup winner | Europa League: third qualifying round |
The distribution may change if UEFA once again bans Russian clubs from Europe.
Cup winner Antwerp: third qualifying round Europa League
Antwerp can already look forward to European football next season. Because of the cup win, the number 1 is certain of the third preliminary round of the Europa League, with the play-offs in the Conference League as a safety net.
If the European football association UEFA decides not to admit the Russians, the Belgian cup winner will play the last preliminary round (the play-offs) of the Europa League.
That chance seems rather high.
Of course, Antwerp will still have the chance to upgrade its own ticket. It does that by becoming national champion or second. And then the lower European tickets move to the pursuers in the league.
National champion: third qualifying round Champions League
The winner of the 2022-2023 Jupiler Pro League season can prepare for the Champions League.
Not yet for the group stage, a direct ticket is at stake again next season, but for participation in the preliminary rounds.
Normally, the Belgian national champion starts in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
Unless UEFA bans Russian clubs again. Then the number 1 can immediately get started in the last preliminary round (the play-offs) of the Champions League. If you lose, the group stage in the Europa League awaits.
KRC Genk plays European anyway.
2nd: second qualifying round Champions League
The Belgian vice champion also has a chance to participate in the Champions League next season. The number 2 in our country will play in the second heat next summer.
In the event of a defeat, the third qualifying round in the Europa League awaits. If that too is too ambitious, the vice champion will play the play-offs for the Conference League.
Qualifying for the Champions League was just too much for Union this season.
number 3: second qualifying round Conference League
The team that finishes in third place in the Champions’ Play-off normally plays in the second qualifying round of the Conference League next season
But suppose Antwerp comes second, then the ticket of the number three will be upgraded to the third preliminary round of the Europa League.
number 4 and 5: second qualifying round Conference League
The number four from the Champions’ Play-offs and the number five from the Europe Play-offs will receive a ticket for the second preliminary round of the Conference League.
Because Antwerp’s cup win means they no longer have to play jump-offs.
