FC Emmen gives Cambuur a new blow with late victory in relegation cracker | Football

FC Emmen won the relegation cracker against SC Cambuur on Saturday at the last minute. Thanks to a goal in injury time, the Drenten were 1-2 too strong for the Frisians.

In the opening phase, the best chances were for Cambuur, but Bjørn Johnsen failed to open the score twice. On the other hand, Keziah Veendorp hit the post with a lob and a goal by Richairo Zivkovic was disallowed for offside.

Cambuur also had the first big chance after the break, but this time Johnsen headed over. Shortly afterwards, Jeremy Antonisse hit the post on behalf of FC Emmen.

Mitchel Paulissen gave Cambuur the lead more than twenty minutes before the end. The attacker headed in from a cross from Daniël van Kaam. The home team could only enjoy the lead for a while, as Ahmed El Messaoudi made it 1-1 from a rebound ten minutes before the end.

The match seemed to be heading for a draw, but FC Emmen still took the three points in injury time. Jeroen Veldmate headed in from a free kick.

Due to the defeat, Cambuur remains at the bottom of the Eredivisie. The team from Leeuwarden is one point behind number seventeen FC Groningen, which will visit Fortuna Sittard on Sunday. FC Emmen takes over fifteenth place from Excelsior, which drew 0-0 against FC Twente on Saturday.
