Born in Vienna, he was known and loved not only for his skills on the pitch, but also for his open, humorous manner. Ettmayer always dealt directly with the fact that his weight did not correspond to the typical image of a competitive athlete, even by the standards of the time.

In an interview with the specialist magazine “11Freunde” he once explained that during his playing days at a height of 1.72 meters he “always weighed between 83 and 85 kilos”. “I like to eat, and I especially like sweets. Cake, ice cream, chocolate,” Ettmayer was quoted as saying.
