Corruption in Biathlon: The Eternal Evil of World Sport – Sport

Hunts, watches, prostitutes: ex-biathlon boss Besseberg has to go to court. His case is exemplary for the system. When will politics finally increase the pressure on sport?

In Norway, a corruption thriller from the global sports world is now on trial. Investigators from the Okokrim agency have brought charges against former President of the World Biathlon Union (IBU), Anders Besseberg. The reason: alleged bribery – in the form of hunting trips, watches, prostitutes. Since an IBU investigation a few years ago, there have been suspicions that Besseberg covered up Russian machinations and doping cases. The ex-boss always rejected this, and even after the indictment his lawyer insisted that Besseberg never allowed himself to be bribed.
