Heavily in debt, FC Barcelona is now in the eye of the storm following the Negreira affair. While some former leaders of Barça will have to justify the payment of 7 M€ to the former number 2 of the arbitration, UEFA has already put its nose in the case, threatening the Blaugranas with an exclusion from all Cups of Europe over several seasons if the Catalan club had violated one of its rules.
Barça will claim 100 M€ in the event of exclusion from the European Cups!
On the defensive since the start of the case, Joan Laporta has already counter-attacked with the body. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca’s president has made it known that if UEFA opens disciplinary proceedings against his club before the case is tried in civil courts then he will seek €100m in damages per season of suspension from instance. A sum that would correspond to the club’s shortfall in the absence of the Champions League, the competition that Barça should play next year.
At the same time, FC Barcelona has indicated that it will collaborate in all investigations, whether that of the Spanish justice system or that of the European body which has already started this week with a visit to the premises.
