B-team Union narrowly wins against already relegated Seraing and is again within two points of leader Racing Genk

Union can add three points again, but that is all said. Union was already 2-0 up at half-time against an immature Seraing, but after a goal against Marius early in the second half, it was still a bit shaky. Union finally crossed the line with three points and remains in the wake of leader Genk.

After the great 1-1 draw in Leverkusen, Union coach Karel Geraerts logically chose to rotate a lot. Only four players who kicked off on Thursday now started again. Strong holders such as Boniface, Lynen and Lazare started on the bench. Union was also lucky that it ‘only’ hit Seraing on Sunday evening. There is no better game to rotate, Seraing was already relegated and didn’t play for anything anymore.

And yet the relegated player was not a bird for the cat, although it seemed that way after 45 minutes of play. After less than 90 seconds, François Union already took the lead, but the flag was rightly raised for offside. Postponement of execution, because a little past fifteen minutes it was price when Adingra got the ball in front of the feet and rammed the leather high into goal. (Read more below the photo)

Seraing was really nowhere, Union had possession all the time and was looking for holes in the defence. Just after half an hour, the game seemed to be over: Vertessen had followed closely after Dietsch fired a shot from Teuma. The same Vertessen also had a great chance to immediately kill the match completely, but he shot too wildly in the stands.

Still tension

But then came the second half. Union seemed a bit too confident in his double lead and swallowed an early goal via Marius. Suddenly some doubts seemed to creep into the team: a lot of carelessness ensured that Seraing’s faith gradually returned. Not that the visitors played crazy good football, but they had more ball possession and still seemed to want to go full for that point. (Read more below the photo)

The nervousness in the team ultimately did not cost Union any points, Seraing did not use the space it sometimes got and could only threaten in the absolute final, but Marius’ attempt went over. The Unionists were also nowhere in the second half. If the people of Brussels present themselves on Thursday as they did in the second half, the elimination is undoubtedly just around the corner.

The positive? The three points are in, and many strong holders could rest with a view to Thursday. Although it will have to be a bit better.
