Youngest athlete to complete Seven Oceans Challenge

23-year-old Indian open water swimmer Prabhat Raju Koli achieved the feat of being the world’s youngest athlete to complete the so-called Seven Oceans challenge.

The young man, a native of the city of Mumbai, swam the 28 kilometers of the Cook Strait, located between the North and South islands of New Zealand, with a time of eight hours and 41 minutes.

The Seven Oceans includes crossing the English Channels, located between England and France; North, between Ireland and Scotland; the Strait of Gibraltar, between Spain and Morocco; the Catalina channel, located between the island of the same name and California; the Molokai channel between that island of Hawaii and Oahu, the Tsugaru Strait, located between Honshu and Hokkaido, Japan; and the Cook Strait.

Koli, laureate of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Sport Award in 2018, attempted to swim the Cook Strait in early 2020, before the pandemic, but was unable to finish it due to bad weather with just five kilometers to go.
