Viktorija Golubic (WTA 116) finally achieved his first win of the year in a main draw at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.

The 30-year-old from Zurich defeated the American Hailey Baptiste (WTA 280) 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 1. In the first set, the Swiss qualifier had to go into the tie-break despite a 4-0 lead. She conceded a break in the second round before she conceded nine points to her opponent and scored the first match point after 96 minutes.

Golubic shouldn’t be too proud of the victory. The 21-year-old Baptiste benefited from a wildcard. The two had already faced each other in qualifying at the US Open last August, and Golubic also won then.

The next opponent is number 12 seeded Ludmilla Samsonowa (WTA 15). Golubic decided the only duel against the 24-year-old Russian in June 2019 in Nottingham on grass in three sets in her favour.
