Vlad Jr. appreciates the support of the Dominican team

DUNEDIN, Florida.- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. plans to make slow progress in his recovery from a sore right knee. The Blue Jays slugger said Sunday that he’s feeling better every day, and he’s thankful the ailment wasn’t more serious.

“Obviously it’s nothing serious,” Guerrero said. “Nothing alarming. I feel better. My priority now is to be fully recovered.”

Guerrero was hurt during a Grapefruit League game Friday while running to second base after a hit. The Blue Jays announced Saturday that an MRI did not reveal any structural damage, but there was some swelling.

The gunman had planned to join the Dominican Republic team in Miami for the World Baseball Classic, but had to announce that will not participate in the tournament due to inconvenience. Guerrero said that it was a difficult decision to make, but that he had the support of his family and his teammates on the Dominican team.

“They told me not to feel bad. That I focus on having a great season,” Guerrero said.

For his part, the foreman of the Toronto team, John Schneider, reported that Guerrero’s rehabilitation will be mainly about rest and daily treatment. The leader added that it is not necessary to rush the process.
