Vietnam’s first racket advances with difficulty in badminton match

Thuy Linh, who for the first time in her career has just risen to 40th in the world rankings, required three sets to finally prevail 21-12, 19-21, 21-19 over the visitor in the ladies’ singles event.

In other results of the second date of competitions, the Vietnamese Vu Thi Trang gave in to the push of Sim Yu Jin, number one in South Korea, with the same score of 21-19 in two sets.

Vietnam also fared poorly in the mixed doubles as Tran Le Manh An-Nguyen Hoang Thien Kim lost to Hong Kong’s Yeung Shing Choi-Fan Ka Yan 21-19, 21-12.

In the 2023 edition of the Vietnam International Challenge, around 800 competitors compete for honors in five modalities: men’s (212) and women’s (129) singles, and men’s (95 couples), women’s (71) and mixed (85) doubles.

As reported here today, the best badminton player in the country, Nguyen Thuy Linh, went on to occupy the 40th place in the world ranking after winning the silver medal at the Thailand International Challenge on March 12.
