Two Magog teams at the provincial basketball championships

SPORTS. Two Magog basketball teams earned their way to their respective provincial championships after each winning a gold medal last weekend.

The Carnicas female cadets D3 of La Ruche eclipsed La Poudrière of Drummondville with a score of 56-19, during the regional championship which was held at the Triolet of Sherbrooke. Led by Sylvain Goyette and Sylvie Côté, this team will play against the best in Quebec in their category during the provincial championship, which will take place at Triolet, on April 14, 15 and 16. This team is having a great season with an undefeated record of 14-0 and a first-place finish at the end of the regular season.

The D3 male cadet Carnicas also collected the gold medal at the same venue. Led by the father-son duo formed by Sylvain and Jacob Latendresse, these players beat the Barons du Séminaire de Sherbrooke by a score of 58-44. This victory allows this team from La Ruche to participate in the provincial championship in Montreal, on April 14, 15 and 16.

These cadets hope to continue their success after also winning the regular season champion banner with an immaculate record of 16 wins and no losses.

Note that this victory represents revenge for these young people who lost to this same team last year.

The Latendresse family forms an important core in this team, since the second son of the father, Benjamin, appears in the alignment.

A good note also for the youngest male Carnicas, who won the silver medal at the end of the same tournament. Christian Carrière is the coach of this formation of La Ruche. This 71-45 defeat in the final against the Barons du Séminaire de Sherbrooke, however, excludes him from the provincials.

In addition, six basketball teams from elementary schools in Magog will play their end-of-season tournament at La Ruche next weekend.
