Tottenham part ways with Antonio Conte

Successively eliminated from the FA Cup against Sheffield United (0-1), then from the Champions League against AC Milan (0-1; 0-0), Tottenham announced on Sunday evening an amicable separation from their coach Antonio Conte. Arrived in the fall of 2021 to succeed Nuno Espirito Santos, the 53-year-old Italian will only have remained on the Spurs bench for eighteen months.

The London club, fourth in the Premier League, has announced that Cristian Stellini, Conte’s assistant, will act in the interim, supported by Ryan Mason.

The dismissal of Conte had been expected for a few days, in particular because of the press conference of the Italian technician after the last match of his team, March 18, in Southampton (3-3). After this draw against the red lantern, Conte had denigrated its president, Daniel Levy: “ The history of Tottenham is that for twenty years it has been the same owner and they have not won anything”, he said. He also attacked his players: “There were eleven of us on the pitch and I saw selfish players […] who did not put their heart into the work”.
