The Spaniard was left lying on the track and his colleagues didn’t even come close to check on him. Video.
The image went around the world. The final of the 60 meter hurdles is run on the indoor track of the European Athletics Championships in Turkey. When the athletes are about to reach the finish line, the Spanish Quique Llopis falls collapsed and hits his head hard against the track to the indifference of his colleagues who left him lying and continued at full speed worried about finishing the test.
The situation sparked outrage from the athletics world. Not only because the Spaniard was left lying on the track, but because after the victory of Jason Joseph None of the athletes who participated in the final test approached or cared about Llopis’s health.
As reported by the Spanish Athletics Federation, the runner was removed on a stretcher and conscious. And, two and a half hours after the accident, he published a video where Llopis was shown to be in good condition. And doctor Juan Manuel Alonso assured that the hurdler was “conscious, oriented and with stable vital signs”. In addition, the studies that were carried out showed that Llopis did not have a neurological lesion and that he suffered a concussion.
After his victory, Jason Joseph apologized on his social networks: “First things first. I’m sorry I didn’t check that you were okay. I was lost at the time. Totally blocked from what was around me. I hope you are well, I see you in the outdoor competitions”, wrote the hurdler from Basel.
Finally, Quique Llopis was discharged this morning, which reassured everyone in athletics. “He has turned out well, now to recover,” said the Valencian athlete in a video that reassured his followers.
