Wheelchair basketball.

It is a sport born from traditional basketball and it basically differs in that it is played in wheelchairs and the players have a functional classification related to the degree of their disability. This classification seeks the greatest equality and allows people with very different physical disabilities to meet on the same court, since the spectrum of injuries is very wide and no two are alike. This is a requirement to establish a fair and equitable competition.

Not everyone who plays wheelchair basketball (WSR) uses a wheelchair in their lives. Classification is based on the player’s ability to perform the skills necessary to play basketball. The skill level is not evaluated, but rather the functional capacity to perform them.

Inclusive language. The recommended term is sport for people with disabilities, paralympic sport and athletes with disabilities. Not recommended: adapted sport, para-sport or adapted athlete
