The Prosecutor’s Office presents the complaint in the Negreira case and accuses Rosell and Bartomeu of paying 7.3 million to the former referee to “favor” Barça

BarcelonaThe Prosecutor’s Office has already presented the complaint for the Negreira case to the court of inquiry number 1 in Barcelona: after almost a year of investigation, the public ministry concludes that the former presidents of Barça Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu paid 7.3 million euros to the former referee director José María Enríquez Negreira until 2018 so that he “favored” the club “in the decision-making of the referees in the matches played” by the team. The complaint by the public ministry is also directed against Negreira, against FC Barcelona – as a legal entity – and against former directors Òscar Grau and Albert Soler. Among the crimes attributed to them are corruption between individuals in the sports field, disloyal administration and document falsification.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s thesis, the payments to Negreira would have been concealed through invoices that the club paid to two companies linked to the former referee for alleged verbal advice that would never have been carried out. Investigators allegedly discovered the jobs were not real after the Tax Agency put them under scrutiny over a tax issue.

The prosecution’s complaint has been presented to the judge who is already investigating another complaint about the case, the one presented a few weeks ago by VAR referee Estrada Fernández. In fact, this demand has precipitated the closure of the proceedings carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office and the presentation of the complaint because, with a judicial investigation already underway, the public ministry could not maintain its own in parallel.

Bartomeu, also on trial by a branch of Barçagate

On the other hand, Bartomeu is also the protagonist of this Friday’s judicial news for a derivative of the Barçagate case. The former Barcelona president and Jaume Masferrer, his former right-hand man at the head of the entity, will also have to go to trial after the complaint filed by Jaume Roures for insults. The plot is related to Barça’s alleged hiring of the services of I3 Ventures to create negative content towards Roures – as well as other personalities and players linked to the club – and make it viral to generate negative comments and statuses of opinion

According to SER Catalunya, the court of inquiry number 13 of Barcelona has required a bail of 100,000 euros from Bartomeu and Masferrer. The defendants will have to deposit it within 24 hours under threat of seizure if they don’t.
