the prosecutor investigates for devastation

They haven’t gone away, they’re still on national territory. Loyal to a sort of criminal pact, some Eintracht Frankfurt fans have not left the country. On the contrary. After the siege of Naples, they decided to move north, to stay alongside the Atalanta supporters, perhaps in view of the match between the Goddess and Empoli (held tonight in Bergamo). Criminal scenario, it seems to understand, while a note from the minister arrives from the Interior Ministry Matteo Piantedosi, which underlines the importance of the work carried out in Naples by the police forces: «Only thanks to the usual competence, balance and concreteness of the staff of the State Police, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, coordinated by the authorities of public safety, more serious damage to people and things was avoided, which the deplorable violence of some groups of hooligans could have caused», explained the Minister of the Interior. Same assessment by the police chief Lambert Giannini, on the same day in which it was possible to take stock of what happened in Naples. In the prefecture, where a public order committee was held open to the Napoli football club; and in the prosecutor’s office, where 8 arrests were made and the identification of as many as 400 German thugs began.

Eight people in handcuffs: five Neapolitans and three Germans. Investigation conducted by prosecutor Stella Castaldo, under the pool of deputy Sergio Amato, it is possible that the hypothesis of devastation will be defeated; and it is not excluded that to aggravate the individual positions of the suspects, the association may also be challenged. In addition to three young people from Frankfurt, they ended up in jail Diego Iaquinangelo, Antonio Orefice and Diodato Di Natalebelieved to belong to the blue ultras of Curves A and B of the stadium, who are accused of attempting to force the cordon erected by the forces of order around Piazza del Gesù to attack visiting fans; Nicola Verolla, a 46-year-old from Aversa belonging to the Lions group, is instead accused of injuries, damage and resistance in the attempted nighttime assault on the Royal hotel, where about 300 Germans had been transferred and rounded up; and finally a fifth Neapolitan fan, G.C.intercepted in via Medina while he was throwing cobblestones at two buses onto which Eintracht supporters had been loaded: accused of throwing dangerous material and resistance, he will be judged by express judgment.

The investigations don’t stop there. At work the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor, directed by John Melillowhich avails itself of the investigations – among others – of the prosecutor Antonello Ardituro, who in Naples has carried out system investigations on the panorama of violent typhus.

It’s up to the prefect Claudius Palomba to underline how it was better “to control the procession of Germans rather than scattered groups: thanks to the public order device adopted there was no contact between the two opposing fans”.

Forty-eight very complicated hours, with six wounded and bruised, all among the forces of order. “It is understandable that everyone’s attention is focused on the 15 minutes of Piazza del Gesu – explained the commissioner Alexander Julian – but the moments in which the forces of order had to face critical situations began with the first arrival of German fans at the Naples station: from that moment on, hostile actions by local fans began». Finally, Giuliano recalled how over 200 Daspo were issued in 2022.

New international rules are now needed to save football. The mayor of Naples is explicit. «In Europe, where there is free movement – are the words of Gaetano Manfredi – there are hooligans, who call themselves fans, walking around. There was a military strategy, they are not boarders who go out with a basket: these are like the black blocks. When they were prevented from filming, the Schengen agreement was suspended, so this is a problem that must be resolved at the state level. For the mayor «Naples was hostage for a few hours of hooligans, Germans and Neapolitans, who define themselves as fans. We have had bars and restaurants devastated, as well as five buses damaged by the clashes and we will point out in all the competent offices that it is necessary to give the possibility of compensation for the damage which also occurred for traders. We will work in this direction, we will make a quantification ». In controversy over what was declared by the Uefa president, Manfredi underlined: «Ceferin’s statements (who said he was against the stop to German fans, ed) are unacceptable because they start from a prejudice, as if everyone in Naples were criminals and whoever arrives here instead it is holy”. And the Minister of Sport increases the dose on UEFA’s number one, Andrea Abodi: «I was surprised by Ceferin’s statements. There’s no joking about safety.”
