The Infrastructure Department of the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (spain) wants to repair the defenses of the eastern and northern piers of Isla Verde Exterior, after having analyzed the state of conservation of each of them.
And it is that, those responsible for the enclave have discovered that the individual elements that make up the defense have exceeded their workload limit and present clear pathologies, such as remaining plastic deformations, dents in the profiles or breakage in tension chains, in addition to the defense in your assembly is damaged and must be replaced by a new one with the same or better characteristics.
This inspection has been used to also verify the rest of the elements that make up the dock equipment, such as bollards and ladders, to conclude that there are elements that need to be replaced, or repaired, due to the great deterioration in which they are found.
Thus, the Port Authority has put out to tender the works to reinstall a fender system in the alignment of the dock, which allows larger ships to dock while ensuring the optimal state of the fenders.
The repair of eight double bollards and the placement of a new ladder on the east pier are also planned. All these works have an execution period of one year, a bidding base budget of 3,569,500 euros and an estimated contract value of 2,950,000 euros.
On the other hand, APM Terminals Algeciras has broken a new productivity record on February 22, through the operations of the Mayview Maersk ship with 201.63 movements per hour. The figure has exceeded 200 movements per hour, with the help of 8 operational ship-to-shore cranes, and during a stay of the ship in port of 14.51 hours, compared to the target of 18.52.
