The senator of the Aragonese Party (PAR) and current leader of this formation, Clemente Sanchez-Garnicahas taken the case of P to the Senatewelcome abianwhom The Spanish Badminton Federation has excluded from the scholarships called for internships at the Blume Residence of the High Performance Center (CAR) in Madrid in the 2020-21 and 2022-23 seasons.

Likewise, the Federation does not allow, since January 1, the athlete to use these facilities for training.

According to Sánchez-Garnica, the Federation has indicated that its decision responds to the spirit of its “sports project”, which creates, in the senator’s opinion, a situation “unfair and discriminatory”.

The FEB assured that it offered Pablo Abián the same support as the rest of the team’s players and that the Aragonese rejected it, “Pablo has been asked to train in the CAR with the group”says the federation.

Pablo Abián, who is currently number 1 in the National ranking in men’s singles, First Spaniard in the European ranking and second in the world ranking, he has been part of the Spanish Olympic badminton team in the last four Olympic Games (Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokil 2020).

He has also been absolute champion of Spain in men’s singles in 2022, champion of the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona 2018 and Oran 2022, absolute champion of Spain in men’s singles and men’s doubles in 2021, champion of the Spanish International 2021 and champion of the European Games of 2015.

“Excluding him from the scholarships in the way that has been done supposes, in principle, a lack of transparency and objectivity on the part of the Spanish Badminton Federation that deserves, at least, the intervention of the Higher Sports Council, one of whose obligations is to protect and watch over the athletes”, assures Sánchez-Garnica
