The judge admits the complaint against Barça from the Prosecutor’s Office for processing

The trial court 1 of Barcelona has admitted for processing the complaint filed by the Prosecutor’s Office against FC Barcelona as a legal person and its former presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu. The complaint is also addressed to former club executives Óscar Grau and Albert Soler. The case is open for the crimes of corruption between individuals in the sports field, continued crime of unfair administration and continued crime of falsifying a commercial document. The Prosecutor’s Office entrusted the investigations to Anticorruption.

The investigating magistrate has agreed that the Civil Guard take the appropriate steps to find out the reasons for FC Barcelona’s payments to the companies and people involved. Once said documentation of the police investigation has been received, a decision will be made on the statement of those investigated and requested testimonials.

The Barcelona Prosecutor’s Office formalized last Friday the presentation of a complaint against FC Barcelona and against its former presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu. Joan Laporta was not included in the complaint because in his case the alleged crimes would have already prescribed. The Public Ministry, which has summoned Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde to be declared former Barça coaches, accuses the club and the former presidents of the entity of paying referees to seek sports benefits. “Through the presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barça reached and maintained a strictly confidential verbal agreement”, with the vice president of the arbitration group, so that “in exchange for money, they would carry out actions tending to favor Barcelona in taking decisions of the referees in the matches played by the club and thus in the results of the competitions”.

“It meant a real remuneration not provided for in the club’s statutes or approved by the General Assembly. In short, these perceptions did not have any legal or statutory support, “says the complaint. Barça paid more than 7 million euros to the former vice president of the referees for 18 years, between 2001 and 2018.

The Government, through the CSD, the League and Real Madrid announced that they would appear in the case if the complaint was admitted for processing, as happened this Wednesday.
