At 23 years old, Samuele Ceccarelli overshadows Marcell Jacobs, despite being the reigning Olympic champion in the 100m.

Italian Samuele Ceccarelli, almost unknown until then, hit hard by dominating the 60m semi-finals of the Istanbul Indoor Athletics Euros on Saturday, showing himself to be faster than his compatriot Marcell Jacobs.

In 6 sec 47, Ceccarelli became the 5th European performer of all time over the indoor distance. A crazy time for the one who had a record of 6 sec 54, established this season, and had not done better than 6 sec 72 before this winter.

The 23-year-old athlete stood out two weeks ago by becoming Italian champion ahead of star Marcell Jacobs.

Jacobs, Olympic champion in the 100m and world champion in the 60m indoors, also qualified for the final, scheduled for 6:55 p.m. (French time), in a slightly less flashy time (6.52).

The French Méba-Mickaël Zézé was eliminated (6.64).
