The double for Jin-Young Ko in Singapore, Boutier 11th

The trophy will remain in its showcase. Defending champion, Jin-Young Ko returned the cover to Singapore by winning the HSBC Women’s World Championship again, in very difficult weather conditions (wind, rain) which forced the organizers to interrupt the games for a time during of the last lap, as in the previous one. Arrival launched after her 6th place last week at the Honda Classic, where she had slammed a 64 to finish, the Korean won her 14th title on the LPGA circuit.

This Sunday, she only made a mistake once, at 11 (bogey). An error largely compensated by four birdies and a paying caution on the last holes when she had an even larger margin. Injured in the wrist last year and former world No. 1, Jin-Young Ko burst into tears after her triumph: “It’s the most important victory of my career, really a big moment for me”.

The double winner in Majors in 2019 (Ana Inspiration and Evian Championship) beat Nelly Korda by two strokes (-15). The American (world No. 2) fought against the elements to score two late birdies (14, 18) and remain first runner-up ahead of a trio of Ayaka Furue, Allisen Corpuz and Danielle Kang (-14).

For her part, Céline Boutier made a last lap that was too neutral, in the Par, to hope for better. The Frenchwoman stayed away from her 67 on Saturday and saw her card weighed down by two bogeys on the last two holes. A poorly negotiated finish which ejected her from the Top 10 (11th). The regrets are real because the opportunity seemed good but the results of the start of the season remain extremely positive after 4th places at the Hilton Grand Vacations and the Honda Classic. Céline Boutier is regular in 2023, all she needs is victory.
