On Tuesday at 5 p.m. (CET), Sinner is fighting for his third consecutive quarter-final ticket at the Miami Open. He has won against Rublev twice so far – each time on clay court. However, he had to retire twice against the Russians due to injury. A match at eye level is now expected in Miami – after all, number 11 in the world (Sinner) is playing against number 7 (Rublev).
Both have won their two previous matches relatively clearly in Miami. Rublev even dispatched the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6: 1 and 6: 2. Should Sinner survive the Round of 16 hurdle Rublev, either the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 32) or the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (ATP 54) will be waiting in the round of eight. Supposedly easier tasks on paper, but that’s still a long way off.
