Texas may not see the Playoffs this year, a first

With three franchises based on its territory, Texas has always seen, since 1980 and the creation of the Dallas Mavericks, at least one of its three teams in the Playoffs. This season, with the Spurs and Rockets already eliminated, the Unicorns are the only ones who can keep this series going… but things are off to a bad start.

Texas is a land of XXL barbecues, cowboys and country music. For those interested in sports, it is also a land of basketball. Since 1980, no regular season has ended without at least one Lone Star State team qualifying for the Playoffs. At the same time, eras have followed one another, and with them the great teams. Moses Malone then Hakeem Olajuwon with the Rockets, before the Spurs dynasty and the Nowitzki era in Dallas. Not to mention James Harden’s Rockets and Luka Doncic’s Mavericks in recent seasons.

Solid franchises, which are however today on the point of all falling by the wayside. If this is already official-official for the Spurs and the Rockets, who are aiming for the Draft, it would on the other hand be a huge failure for the Mavericks. Led by Luka Doncic, the Mavs brought in Kyrie Irving this winter to play for the title. They are currently eleventh in the West, and the gap is growing with the Play-in. Blame it on two disgusting defeats against Charlotte, yet one of the worst teams in the NBA. Taking control now seems as imperative as it is urgent.

Be careful, because if Dallas were to fall, the damage could be terrible. In the current state, the Spurs and the Rockets should not necessarily participate in the Playoffs next year except for a big advance in the reconstruction project. We will therefore have to watch Dallas, who are not promised to remain intact in the summer. The suspense remains intact.
