Obituary of Terrence William Joseph O’Connor
November 6, 1942 -Saint John, NB
February 27, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Terrence O’Connor beloved husband of Charlene (Crossman) of Calgary AB, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the age of 80 years.
Terrence was born in Saint John NB, on Nov 6th, 1942.
Terrence graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Bachelor of Arts and he continued to complete his Bachelor of Education at the University of New Brunswick. During his university days, he enjoyed working for the Telegraph Journal as a sales representative for 1 year. He joined the Armed Forces Reserve for a short period, and was stationed in Saint John, NB.
Terrence met Charlene during his University years and knew soon, that this was the love of his life. Terry made Charlene his wife on February 19, 1966.
Life became quite busy soon, as they started a family shortly after marrying. Charlene went back to work full time nursing after her first born to help with Terry being able to finish his education. After Terry completed his 2nd degree, he landed a teaching position at his graduating High School (St. Malachy’s in Saint John). He worked here for 2 years, before the West Coast calling brought him to Calgary AB. Terry then taught for 2 years at Spring Bank High School, in Calgary, before his calling to Real Estate.
Terry found a real passion with Real Estate and started with Nu West Homes where he quickly became Top Realtor in his field. Some of his greatest accomplishments during this time was winning numerous trips for his family to enjoy. Some of which included, Hawaii, Bahamas, Florida, California, and Trips to BC. Even when winning a trip anywhere in the world, Terry decided to take the family back to New Brunswick. Causing his realtor comrades to tease him incessantly. These many trips created heartfelt memories that will be a source of comfort to Charlene and his children forever.
Terrence accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud, as a teacher, being appointed to restructuring the English grammar curriculum in the Junior High Schools.
At a young age, Terry found his love for baseball and played his favorite sport right through to his university years. He even got to enjoy this with his brother Bill, winning some championships along the way. This love of Baseball was later reignited by sharing it with his son Ryan. He enjoyed many years watching and then coaching baseball along with hockey. Terry picked up a new sport of golf at the age of 50 and enjoyed many years playing with family and friends alike. Terry taught himself how to play the guitar and enjoyed playing alongside his brother Bill, friends, and family, at many weddings.
He will be most remembered for his huge heart, his engaging smile, and his immense love for his family.
Besides his loving wife Charlene, of 57 years, Terrence is survived by his children and their partners, Krista O’Connor and her fiancé Wallace Herd, Debra Aitken and her husband Troy Aitken and Ryan O’Connor and his partner Jacqueline Gregory; eight grandchildren: Brooke Matilda, Logan Aitken, Sage Aitken, Connor Aitken, Leif Aitken, Trinity O’Connor, Kayley O’Connor and Payton O’Connor.
Terrence is also survived by his brother William “ Bill” (Donna) O’Connor; sister Kathleen O’Connor ; and sisters-in-law Joanne O’Connor, Anna Fallon and Sandra Sutherland (Rene); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Terrence was predeceased by his parents, Charles Bernard O’Connor and Gertrude O’Connor (nee Logan), and his brother, Paul Bernard O’Connor.
As per Terry’s wishes a private service will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
