Bianca Andreescu again has to fear a long downtime. The former US Open winner screams in pain and has to be wheeled off the court.

Former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu from Canada has to fear a long downtime again.

In the round of 16 of the WTA tournament in Miami, the 22-year-old tennis player apparently suffered a serious ankle injury when trying to return in a match against Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Andreescu repeatedly cried out in pain and whimpered while lying on the floor. She later had to be lifted into a wheelchair in severe pain and taken off the field in tears.

“I’ve never had such severe pain,” Andreescu said during treatment on the pitch. She was hugged by her opponent before she was taken away, later the WTA confirmed an injury to her left ankle.

Andreescu often struggles with injury problems

The highly talented Andreescu, who was considered virtually invincible for some time before her joking injuries, has been struggling with injury problems for a long time.

After her spectacular final victory over Serena Williams when she was 19 at the US Open 2019, she missed the whole of 2020, among other things.

Recently, she has been in good form on her way back to her former strengths – beating seventh-seeded Greek Maria Sakkari in Miami, among others.
