“Surprise” on the subway is a “once in a lifetime experience” Czech baseball family thanks Japan | Full-Count

Captain Peter Zima has been playing baseball since he was 6 or 7 years old.

“Carnext 2023 WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 1st Round Tokyo Pool” will be the last day on the 13th. Prior to the match against Australia, the captain of the Czech national team, Peter Zima, attended a press conference and spoke of his own father’s “surprise” and gratitude to Japan.

When they won the match against China on the 10th, about 200 cheering squads from the Czech Republic were cheering from the stands. It is said that Captain Zima’s father was among them. “After winning the match against China, they (the cheerleaders) took the subway back to the hotel, where Japanese fans, including my father, congratulated them. I have never done it,” he said earnestly.

In addition, Captain Zima continued his gratitude to Japan, saying, “It was impressive that my father said that it was a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience to have so many fans congratulate me.”

“Being here day after day, I have had amazing experiences through the Japanese media. One day, when I tried to sign autographs for Escala and the fans, they gave me a lot of sweets instead.”

Unusually in the Czech Republic, where baseball is only a minor sport, Captain Dima has devoted himself to baseball since he was 6 or 7 years old. The reason is that “my father was doing it too”. “I’ve never been envious of professional athletes in other sports, although of course it’s nice to be able to make a living out of it…” The baseball family is amazed and grateful for his experience in Japan.
