Success of the most crowded Orange Games

Yesterday, the Samarucs LGTBI+ Sports Club successfully completed the third and last day of Jocs Taronja, an international sports tournament in which 1,200 athletes from different national and European clubs have participated. Over three days, competitions from 16 different disciplines have been held, such as beach volleyball, volleyball, swimming, futsal, quadball, rowing, fencing, tennis, taekwondo, running, chess, dance, theater, capoeira, multisports and fitness. On the third and final day, held yesterday, the tennis finals were held at the Nazareth Sports Center and Quadball at the Quatre Carreres pavilion, as well as the chess tournament held at the La Petxina Sports-Cultural Complex.

The management of the Jocs Taronja has expressed its satisfaction with the great reception of this edition that has broken all participation records and has also been an organizational success: «All the competitions have been developed in a very healthy environment of freedom and inclusiveness and the participants have expressed their gratitude for the great attention received, both from the city of Valencia and from the Club Deportivo Samarucs LGTBI+”. It should be noted that this tournament is organized entirely by more than 70 volunteer athletes from the Samarucs LGTBI+ Club who have selflessly contributed their know-how to design each of the competitions and plan, throughout the weekend, the reception of the participating Clubs.

Els Jocs Taronja 2023 thus achieves its main objective, the creation of a competition space in which people from the LGTBI+ collective feel safe practicing their favorite sport, far from situations of lgtbiphobia, making visible and claiming their sexual condition in total freedom.

One of the most outstanding activities was the 8k race held at the Turia Stadium in which a hundred participants from Valencia, Elche, Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Portugal and Italy took to the athletics tracks from where the 8 kilometer route began. through the Turia Garden. The fitness competition was also held at the Stadium with 40 participants. The rowing competition had 60 participants. The majority sport was volleyball, with more than 400 athletes in three different sports centers.
