Shawn Kemp was arrested on a shooting charge

Former Seattle Supersonics and NBA star Shawn Kemp was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting at a shopping mall. This was stated by the police of the Tacoma Police Department (Washington), who intervened following reports of gunfire in the parking lot of the Tacoma Mall, the largest shopping center in the city.

ABC News reports. “Responding officers determined that an altercation had occurred between two parties in vehicles,” the Tacoma Police Department said after the incident. “One of the drivers fired several shots at the occupants of the other vehicle.”

Shortly thereafter, officers say they were able to locate the suspect who had fired at the driver of the other car and arrest the 53-year-old without further incident. Authorities also confirmed that a firearm was recovered from the scene.

Pierce County online arrest records show Shawn Kemp, 53, was charged with a felony shooting at 5:58 p.m., four hours after the incident that occurred at the Tacoma Mall.

Kemp, a six-time NBA all-star who led the Seattle Supersonics to the 1996 NBA Finals, has been denied bail and is expected to be arraigned Thursday, according to ABC News affiliate KOMO in Seattle. The motives behind the alleged shooting are not yet clarified.

Kemp – nicknamed the “Reign Man” – played 14 seasons in the NBA, including eight seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics who selected him 17th overall in the 1989 draft, as well as stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers and Orlando Magic before to retire after the conclusion of the 2003 NBA season.
