Former outfielder Andrew Toles suffered a descent into hell as soon as his major league baseball career ended in 2018. The Los Angeles Dodgers are, however, doing everything possible to help the 30-year-old man.

After his three years with the California team, Toles had to deal with several mental health issues. According to what his sister revealed, he has attended more than 20 psychiatric care facilities and suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He was notably arrested in Florida, in 2020, since he slept outside an airport in Key West.

Toles’ last game was on Sept. 30, 2018, but the Dodgers have renewed his contract every year since. Although he would no longer receive a salary under this agreement, the native of the State of Georgia has access to many social benefits.

Knowing that an ambulance trip can cost more than $1,200 in Florida in 2023, we can imagine that this helping hand is greatly appreciated.

In an interview with the daily “USA Today”, in 2020, Alvin Toles painted a very sad portrait of his son’s mental health.

“Schizophrenia is so difficult. He can’t even watch TV since he hears voices at the same time. I saw him watching baseball games on his computer, but I don’t think he understood much.”
