Liverpool’s season has been a rollercoaster ride. After beating Manchester United 7-0, Jürgen Klopp’s team is embarrassed at the last of the Premier League. And that before the second leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Dhe FC Liverpool slipped up again in the tight race for the Champions League qualification places and conceded a surprising defeat in the Premier League shortly before the duel at Real Madrid. At AFC Bournemouth, threatened with relegation, the team of coach Jürgen Klopp lost 0-1 (0-1) on Saturday, also because Mohamed Salah missed a penalty in the second half of the game.

“It was never really our game,” explained a visibly disappointed Klopp after the game. “We didn’t enjoy the challenge of playing against a deep and compact team.” Bournemouth was the deserved winner. Klopp said of Salah’s missed penalty: “He scores a lot of goals, he missed a penalty, that’s life.”

Barely a week after the outstanding 7-0 home win in the league against Manchester United, Liverpool also got off to a good start in Bournemouth. However, the supposed opening goal by Cody Gakpo after 15 minutes did not count because of an offside position. Bournemouth finally took the lead through Philip Billing in the 28th minute.

After conceding a goal, the visitors from Liverpool were mainly dangerous in set pieces, but missed the equaliser. After a handball from Adam Smith, who maneuvered a shot by Diogo Jota over the goal with his arm, Liverpool’s record goalscorer Salah (69th) took the penalty and shot the ball wide to the left of the goal.
