Guido Pella battled well against Denis Shapovalov playing evenly but was left without a rest and saw, firsthand, the Canadian’s advance to the next round. He went 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour and 53 minutes.
It was an acceptable performance from the Bahian who seeks to reinsert himself in the big circuit and thus achieve filming against the best. The Canadian is not at his highest moment, but even so he gained confidence and is a fearsome rival.
Pella had just beaten the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas in his debut.
