At 12.36 p.m., coach Thomas Tuchel officially introduced himself in the Allianz Arena in the presence of CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic. How his first days went, what is important now, what his coaching team should look like and which trip he canceled for FC Bayern – the kicker gives an overview.
Very clear in his statements: The new Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel.
Everything started on Tuesday. Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic called Thomas Tuchel after an internal analysis in the management floor and the decision to relieve Julian Nagelsmann of his duties. With the intention of installing the 49-year-old immediately. Tuchel himself, who was also in talks with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur, canceled his trip to London. There he wanted to meet with Tottenham officials. But his personal number one among the clubs was FC Bayern, which specifically asked him about a commitment.
Tuchel’s decision was quickly made clear, even if he said he had slept on it for another night. On Thursday, the new coach and the Munich team agreed on a contract until 2025. Tuchel’s work on Säbener Straße will start next Monday. Then he will lead the training of the record champions for the first time. At first only with the players who are not on duty for the national team. The rest will not return until the end of the week.
Hardly any time to practice processes
So there is hardly any time for the new Bayern coach to practice his routines before the top duel with Borussia Dortmund. It’s more about the little things. Tuchel only has one training session with the entire team. Nevertheless, he knows the squad very well. He followed all the games in the Champions League, he said this Saturday at his presentation. And since Tuesday he has been working intensively on the player material, with possible systems and structures. He takes every little detail into account.
In addition, his coaching team is to be put together. Zsolt Löw and Arno Michels, his two assistant coaches, are already fixed, they have been with Tuchel since the beginning. Added to this is Anthony Berry, Chelsea’s athletics coach. “We’re confident because it’s my absolute wish,” says Tuchel: “We’ll start with the three assistants next week.”
And: goalkeeper coach Michaelrechner, who came in winter at the request of ex-coach Nagelsmann, will stay. “Yes, he’s going on,” explains Salihamidzic: “He’s an absolute top man and will continue to work with us.” The previous assistant coaches Dino Toppmöller and Xaver Zembrod have to go with Nagelsmann.
