OM-Montpellier: Khazri sharpened, Vitinha erased

Wahbi Khazri unleashed against an overwhelmed Vitinha. Panoramic.

TOPS/FLOPS – The big performance of Khazri, the solidity of Jullien and an overly borrowed Vitinha, find the tops and flops of this OM-Montpellier (1-1).

Tops

Khazri’s Big Game

Holder on the left side of the attack, Wahbi Khazri hurt OM very badly on Friday evening. He signs the action of the evening with a sombrero in his area, a ball lift for forty meters with Guendouzi on his heels which brings the goal of Nordin (13th). The Tunisian hurt offensively but also worked a lot defensively to help his side, Sylla. He finished the match with 10 km on the clock and seven recoveries, not common for Khazri. Only small downside, his opportunity at the entrance to the surface (66th) where he closes his foot too much and misses Blanco’s target.

Jullien, the Hérault rock

The defense boss. With Kouyaté’s injury exit, he took on this role even more. Solid in the air on all Marseille centers, he fought a real fight against Vitinha, Alexis Sanchez and Malinovskyi in particular. Christopher Jullien ends the game with three clearances, six interceptions and three recoveries. Solid.

Veretout, the best Marseille

The guardian of the OM game held its rank on Friday evening. While his team was borrowed, lacking in intensity and technical rigor, Jordan Veretout tried to put order and organize his team’s game (100 balls hit). The French international experienced little waste (92% successful passes) despite taking risks (9 passes in the last 30 meters) but that was not enough. Valuable in the organization, he also contributed defensively with three interceptions and ten recoveries.

Flops

Vitinha trop efface

30 balls touched, no shots and a change at the hour of play, Vitinha had a second tenure in Ligue 1 complicated. The most expensive transfer in the history of OM (32 million euros from Braga this winter) is struggling to convince for the moment. On the ground, we did not see much of the Portuguese, not very available and well contained by Jullien in particular, except on a cross from Clauss badly given and where it was too short (53rd). Too few at this level.

Sakho not reassuring

He appeared at the heart of the first period (22nd) to replace Kiki Kouyaté, released on concussion protocol. And his appearance was noticed since he quickly conceded a penalty (42nd) for a loose hand on a recovery from Sanchez which caused Guendouzi to equalize. Behind, Mamadou Sakho did not really reassure in his interventions and even in his placement. He clearly suffers from the comparison with Christopher Jullien, his friend from the axis.

Clauss and Nuno Tavares in slow motion

The pistons of OM did not weigh against Montpellier. Defensively, both men suffered. Clauss struggled a lot against a very sharp Khazri as Nuno Tavares was passed by Nordin on the opener and also struggled with Mavididi’s entry. Offensively, too meager a contribution with missed crosses, shots without envy. Too meager a balance sheet.
