Status: 03/25/2023 1:08 p.m

Julian Schmid hardly has a chance of a podium place after the competition in Lahti. The best German combined athlete goes into cross-country skiing with a big deficit.

The day before (March 24th, 2023) Julian Schmid and Vinzenz Geiger were able to celebrate victory in the team sprint, this time things didn’t go well for either of them at the penultimate World Cup of the season. Schmid only landed at 113 meters. In 20th place, he goes into the final cross-country skiing, 1:56 minutes behind the leading Estonian Kristjan Ilves (129.5).

Jarl Magnus Riiber has the best chance of winning the day. The Norwegian is 22 seconds behind the leaders.

The best Germans after jumping are Terence Weber (+1:18) and Manuel Faißt (+1:32), who each jumped 119.5 meters. Johannes Rydzek came to 119 meters (+2:06), Jakob Lange to 109 (+3:20).

Penultimate competition for record man Frenzel

For Eric Frenzel, the penultimate jump of his career was 115 meters. The 34-year-old goes into the cross-country ski trail 2:37 minutes behind.

Frenzel is the most successful athlete at the Nordic World Ski Championships. He won a total of 18 medals there. In addition to the World Championship medals, he won the overall World Cup five times in a row and won gold at the Olympics three times.

The three-time combined Olympic champion Eric Frenzel ends his career. “It’s a nice moment to resign now,” said the 34-year-old of the “FAZ”.
