Bianca Andreescu again has to fear a long downtime. In the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami, the 22-year-old Canadian apparently suffered a serious ankle injury when trying to return in a match against Yekaterina Alexandrova (score: 6: 7, 2: 0). The 2019 US Open champion had to be lifted into a wheelchair in severe pain and was taken off the field in tears. “I’ve never had so much pain,” Andreescu cried out on the pitch during treatment. She was hugged by her opponent before she was taken away, later the WTA confirmed an injury to her left ankle. Andreescu has always struggled with injury problems.
