new images of “Qué miras bobo?” from Messi to Weghorst unveiled

In the FIFA documentary dedicated to the last World Cup in Qatar, new images of the altercation between Lionel Messi and Wout Weghorst have been unveiled. The Argentinian had challenged his opponent with a phrase that has become cult, “Qué miras bobo?”.

The scene had gone around the world. After Argentina’s victory over the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, Lionel Messi raised his voice against Wout Weghorst, while he was in the middle of an interview with TyC Sports. “Que miras, bobo? Anda para allá!”, (“What are you looking at, idiot? Go there!”, In VF), had railed the captain of the Albiceleste against the Dutch striker.

Three months later, Fifa revealed new images of this clash in its documentary “Written in the stars”, retracing the 64 matches of the 2022 World Cup. We see Wout Weghorst quite annoyed, miming words intended for the Pulga, while Sergio Agüero and Lautaro Martinez try to calm things down. During Messi’s interview, the Dutchman continues to stare at his opponent, glaring.

Messi regrets his words

Several weeks after this electric evening, the Argentine captain had regretted his behavior. “I don’t like what I did. There was a lot of tension. It came out naturally. A lot had happened with this player and two others during the game. It came out naturally. I don’t like this image,” he told Argentine radio.
