Nestor Colmenares grew up in Zulia

With 28 points from “La Bestia” Néstor Colmenares, and an excellent collective game, Trotamundos de Carabobo defeated Gaiteros del Zulia 75-87 this Friday, at the Pedro Elias Belisario Aponte Gymnasium.

The start was complex for Manolo Povea’s men. With a strong defense, the locals contained “Expreso Azul” and being effective from the line of three they were able to dominate the first quarter 21-14.

However, Pipers could not maintain their marking and Trotamundos found the spaces to recover. Colmenares began his exhibition apart and the carabobeños won the second set by 19 points (8-27) to arrive at the break ahead 29-41.

Pipers, supported by Nirimberth Escalona and Lason Tywon, got back to playing after the break. But the current champion responded to each attack and that exchange of baskets did nothing for the locals.

Trotamundos reached the last quarter leading 48-64 and, although Gaiteros managed to get close, the difference was too much and time did not reach them.

In addition to his 28 points, Colmenares grabbed nine rebounds. Diego Garcia escorted him with 16 points and Jhornan Zamora contributed with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

For Pipers, whose bench contributed 43 points, the best was Lason Tywon with 18 points and three rebounds. Nirimberth Escalona followed with 14 cards and seven boards.

Trotamundos remains undefeated after three rounds, while Gaiteros leaves his record at 1-2.
