NBA legend and Knicks legend dies at 80

Willis Reed is dead. He made his mark on the NBA in the 1960s and ’70s. Reed was an All-Star seven times, a champion twice and even an MVP in 1970.

US basketball mourns the loss of former “MVP” Willis Reed. The longtime captain of the New York Knicks has died at the age of 80. The Knicks, with whom Reed twice won the NBA championship, announced this on Tuesday.

Reed played ten seasons for the Knicks from 1964 to 1974 and was selected to the All-Star team seven times. In the 1969/70 season he was also awarded the Most Valuable Player of the Season (MVP).

“The Knicks organization is deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Captain Willis Reed,” the Knicks statement said.
