Based in Andora, Italy, the waters of the Gulf of Genoa will host the dispute of the ILCA European Championship , the oldest class of the so-called Olympics, attended by more than 40 Spanish sailors. The total participation of this continental is close to 400 athletes.

Ana Moncada among the girls of ILCA 6, and joaquin white and Leopoldo Barreto in ILCA 7 lead the Spanish delegation as members of the Olympic team, to which are added athletes from the three admitted categories: ILCA 7, ILCA 6 female and ILCA 6 male. Among the 42 Spaniards, it is worth noting Isabel Hernández and Daniel Cardona, both included in the RFEV National Sports Modernization Plan, who were U21 bronze in the ILCA 6 women’s and men’s respectively in the 2022 European.

This competition marks the beginning of the second Olympic cycle of the Spanish sailing team for the ILCA class that will be completed with the world championship. To continue in the Olympic team during the next cycle, in this European the athletes must be within the first 15% of the fleet, or be among the first eight European countries.

Sailors from the Olympic team and from the National Sports Technification Plan will sail together with representatives of various autonomous communities

At the start line we will see the complete podiums of the last Olympic Games: Anne-Marie Rindom (DEN), Josefin Olsson (SWE) and Marit Bouwmeester (NED) from ILCA 6, and Matthew Wearn (AUS), Fonci Stipanovic (CRO ) and Hermann Tomargaard (NOR) in ILCA 7. The Open nature of the competition has boosted international participation with almost fifty non-European sailors registered, thus offering a good prelude to the world championships that will take place in The Hague in August, where will put into play the first places in the country for Paris 2024.

The organization provides for the dispute of up to twelve scoring regattas, which will be held between tomorrow, Sunday, March 12, and next Friday, the 17th. The tests will be divided into a qualifying series and a final series. The weather reports announce strong winds for the start of the week and rainy days during this championship.
