MLB News: Mexico falls against Colombia taking the game to extra-innings in their World Baseball Classic debut

The World Baseball Classic is already proving to be very exciting as the game between Mexico and Colombia ended in extra-innings. Mexico could not keep up with Colombia and the game finished 5-4.

Mexico could not withstand the pressure from the Colombian team and failed to win in their debut game which was played this afternoon at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

On Friday, the team’s manager, Benjamin Gil announced that he would go to the game with his best available arm, Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias who pitched a good four-inning turn, however, he received three runs in the fifth inning, losing the initial one-run lead.

In the fourth inning, Mexico opened the scoreboard with an Isaac Paredes hit that brought Joey Meneses home. In the fifth, an unearned run by Elias Diaz drove in Jorge Alfaro to even the score and then came a two-run home run by Reynaldo Rodriguez, which put the score at 3-1 for Colombia.

Then came Randy Arozarena’s two-run homer to tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth

In the seventh, Colombia took the lead with a hit by Rodriguez that pushed Jorge Alfaro to score and again Mexico tied the game at four with a hit by Alex Verdugo.

In the ninth, Mexico had the opportunity to put Colombia on the field, but Alex Verdugo left two men on base and the game went to extra innings, where the Mexican defense gave up a couple of errors in the top of the tenth. In their last chance, the Mexican batters came up empty to end the game.
