Mexico wants to host the Summer Olympics in 2036 or 2040. Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and the Chair of the Mexican Olympic Committee, Mary Jose Alcala, presented the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, with a declaration of intent on Friday in Lausanne. According to the IOC, it is in talks with around ten countries about hosting the 2036 Games, including Egypt, Great Britain, India and South Korea.

The 2036 Summer Games are the next up for grabs. The summer 2024 games will be held in Paris, four years later Los Angeles will host the games, and in 2032 Brisbane in Australia.

Mexico has the necessary sports and tourism infrastructure in various cities and regions to host the Olympic Games, the declaration of intent said. The Latin American country had already hosted the Summer Games in 1968. Alongside the USA and Canada, Mexico is also one of the organizers of the next World Cup in 2026.
