After a long majority, Lustenauer Austria celebrated a 1-0 win at Wolfsburg AC.

In today’s away game at Wolfsberger AC, Lustenauer Austria wanted to keep a direct competitor at bay and secure eighth place. It was particularly important for the Carinthians to take the momentum from the change of coach to Manfred Schmid. At the beginning, however, the hosts were the leading team, which also had the first top chance. But an Anzolin deal was blocked at the last second. On the other hand, Austria had the first big chance in the 21st minute through Türkmen out of nowhere, but Bonmann in the WAC goal prevented the goal with a brilliant act. Shortly thereafter, Piesinger saw the red card after an emergency brake and the Lustenau team then acted with a majority. The visitors capitalized on that for the first time in the 38th minute, but a Cheukoua strike from a rebound was ruled out for offside following VAR intervention.

Hugonet scores only goal

Despite being outnumbered, the duel remained open at the beginning of the second half and the WAC also had chances to take the lead. This succeeded in the 64th minute, however, the Lustenau. Hugonet climbed the highest after a corner kick and headed in to take the lead. After this goal, the guests withdrew and controlled the game from a stable defence. The WAC seemed to be running out of strength, which gave Austria a chance to make a decision. Substitute Motika missed the best opportunity, but was denied in the 77th minute by Bonmann, who again acted strongly.

In the end, it was a narrow 1-0 win, with which the green-whites secured 8th place in the table. At the end of the basic round, next week we will face Austria from Klagenfurt at home.
