Levante celebrates the Republic Cup with a draw against Zaragoza

MADRID, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Zaragoza achieved a meritorious draw (1-1) this Friday at the City of Valencia against Levante on the brink of direct promotion, which also received the President of the Republic Cup-Copa de la España Libre trophy in front of its fans. 1937 that accredits him as champion, after the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) awarded him the title last Saturday.

Thus, in the run-up to the match, the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, handed over the trophy to Vicente Iborra, captain of Levante, and the players from the Barça team, this time in blue and white, with President Quico Catalán, celebrated with applause and an ovation from the stands.

Relatives of the players of the mythical award-winning team such as Ernesto Calpe, Agustín Dolz Martínez-Catalán, Juan Puig and Jesús Nieto were present at the emotional event, which was also attended by Levante legends and captains (Salvador Mut, Jorge Barrie, Vicente Latorre and Sergio Ballesteros) to give luster to a night that will remain etched in the memory of the granotas.

Not so much for the football offered, since the tie prevented them from celebrating the cup title with a victory for their team. Although the team led by Javi Calleja took the lead on the scoreboard after minute 10 with a goal from Joni Montiel after picking up a rebound from Iborra in the small area, the feeling of the granota team was somewhat poor against a Zaragoza that began to get into the crash.

Thus, the handy team came out in the second half somewhat more plugged in and with clear ideas. Bermejo’s goal after the hour of play after a powerful shot endorsed the style proposed by a Zaragoza who, shortly after, luck smiled again with the expulsion of Saracchi. In the end, the exchange of blows, with a crossbar from Pepelu and several clear chances from Bebe was not enough to change the tie on a scoreboard that never moved again.
