Despite having finished his term as president more than three years ago, that of Daniel Angelici continues to be a strong name in the Boca World. Publicly confronted with the current vice president of the club, Juan Román Riquelme, the former president Xeneize confirmed that he will not compete in the next elections, although he will give his support to the candidate running for the opposition.

In a one-on-one chat with TNthe tano He spared no criticism of Riquelme and, in addition, he addressed various issues related to the club from the riverbank: from the football news of the team and Hugo Ibarra’s cycle as coach, to his desire that Mauricio Macri return to be involved in institutional politics and questions about the future of the Bombonera.

Are you looking at Boca?

I’m seeing him, he rarely plays well but he comes from many years. Even at the time when I was in recent times I did not play well. It has not improved much, players have left and the hierarchy has been lost. Against Defense he played well, but against Banfield no. You’ve already gone through that stage and from the outside you’re just another fan: always cheering, always wanting to see Boca win. I meet many people on the street who are not satisfied with the management of the club, like today. But I always said: it was Ameal’s turn to win -or Riquelme’s- election and it’s up to them to govern. The partners have the possibility to evaluate if the management is good or not.

Do you like Ibarra?

I love Negro Ibarra very much. He accompanied me on my first campaign, but The most important thing is to have a technician who has 100% autonomysomething that is very difficult with the Football Council and with Riquelme.

It’s an election year, are you going to participate in club politics?

My stage in Boca ended for the moment. Yes, I will accompany the opposition candidate. With my vote or whatever they ask me. Hopefully the opposition unifies a candidate to give the partner another alternative.

Macri’s participation was discussed, would you like him to be a candidate?

I would love to, but Macri will not be a candidate. Perhaps you are willing to accompany, perhaps on the list, to give your support. You have to see what he is going to do with his future as well. He is my friend, he is our reference and Boca gave him a lot of joy, so It would be great if he gets involved with the club again.

What makes you hear when Riquelme says that 95%-5% are going to win the elections?

Roman believes his own lie, the one he has been telling the fan for many years. He says, he convinces himself and that is not a reality. He didn’t win the last election. Almost 50% of the partners did not vote for him in the last election, despite winning. Now does he believe that he has done a marvelous effort to get 95% to vote for him? You have to be more humble. Riquelme is an idol for everything he gave Boca but off the field he always left a lot to be desired.

What do you think Boca should do with the stadium?

You cannot lie to the Boca fan every time there is an election on the subject of the stadium. Nobody is going to enlarge the Bombonera in that place. Since the time of Alberto J. Armando that is being treated. It is not that all the presidents who passed through Boca are stupid. The club really needs a stadium for 80 thousand people. On top of that, they skip the list of adherent members: they made 18,000 more members, (so) there will continue to be problems.

The statements were made at the inauguration he made -together with Martín Lousteau- of the House of Studies of the Democracy Institute, formation and training for good government, which took place this Monday in Piedras at 1300, CABA.
