Kaden Groves wins the sprint in Sabadell and Roglic continues to lead the Volta

BARCELONA, 23 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Australian cyclist Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) won the fourth stage of the Volta a Catalunya this Thursday, played between Llívia and Sabadell over 188.2 kilometers, being the strongest in a clean sprint and on a day in which Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) retained the lead.

Kaden Groves likes Catalonia. Specifically, he loves Perpinyà (in the historic Catalunya Nord, in France) and Sabadell, cities in which he has won in 2022 and 2023, respectively, this Australian giant who also won a stage in La Vuelta 22, in Cabo de Gata .

Despite the fact that the final approach work, after chasing the escape, was done by Remco Evenepoel’s Soudal-Quick Step, Alpecin-Deceuninck appeared just in time to impose its ‘train’. Groves decided to wait for the rivals’ movements, took Bryan Coquard’s (Cofidis) wheel and attacked at the right time.

The Frenchman was seen with the victory in his power but Groves was on the lookout. He sped up when he bunted and passed him even with some ease for his 10th pro win, his first this year. The Australian gave no room for reaction to a Coquard who was second, with Corbin Strong (Israel-Premier Tech) third and Jon Aberasturi (Trek-Segafredo), the best Spaniard, seventh.

Despite being motivated, Barcelona’s Roger Adrià (Kern Pharma Team) and Sabadell cyclist David De la Cruz (Astana) were unable to bring to fruition the escape they shared with Torstein Traeen (Uno-X), Christopher Juul-Jensen ( Jayco AlUla) and Nans Peters (AG2R Citroën Team). De la Cruz, with the arrival in his city in mind, tried to covet but they were hunted 4 kilometers away.

This time there was no fight at the head between the first two of the general classification; the still leader Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) did sprint to be fifteenth, but Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) did not seek to tickle him and entered the 26th position.

Yes, a fight is expected, who knows if the decisive one, between the two this Friday, in a fifth stage that ends at the top of Lo Port, an 8.6-kilometre climb at 8.8 percent that could well be, being the third high end of this Volta, the final judge for some Roglic and Evenepoel still tied with the same time.
