When and against whom will Juan Pablo Varillas debut at the Miami 2023 Masters 1000?

The draw of the organization determined that John Paul Varillas (number 88 in the ATP ranking) is measured in the first round against the Argentine Guido Pellanumber 581 in the ATP ranking and who has been having more and more continuity after an injury that gave him a long stoppage.

Varillas’ debut in a Masters 1000 tournament against Guido Pella would take place between Wednesday March 22 and Thursday March 23, pending confirmation of the organization of the event in Miami.

How do both tennis players arrive at the 2023 Miami Masters 1000?

Juan Pablo Varillas secured his ticket in the main draw of the prestigious tournament thanks to his ranking in the circuit. It will be his first appearance in this kind of tournament, with experience in two Grand Slams (Roland Garros and Australian Open) and with an ATP 250 semifinal at the 2023 Buenos Aires Open.

For his part, Guido Pella (32 years old) entered the 2023 Miami Masters 1000 draw thanks to the protected ranking, due to an injury. The Argentine suffered chronic damage to his right knee, which deprived him of playing for a little over a year and marked his reappearance in November 2022 at the Challenger in Montevideo.

It should be noted that in his direct duels, Pella has a positive balance after two wins over Varillas in Challengers, in 2014 and 2017. The winner of this series will face off in the second round of the Masters 1000 in Miami 2023 against Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ranked 30 in the world).
