Jonny Clayton wins Premier League night in Berlin

Jonny Clayton has won the ninth stop of Premier League darts. In the final of the match day played in Berlin, the Welshman beat world champion Michael Smith from England 6:4. Top player Peter Wright (Scotland) disappointed once again, as did Vice World Champion Michael van Gerwen (Netherlands).

In the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Clayton previously won against van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price (Wales). Smith initially prevailed against Dimitri Van den Bergh (Belgium) and his compatriot Nathan Aspinall. Clayton won a night for the first time this season and jumps to fifth place in the table.

The former world champions Wright and van Gerwen already lost their first match and were eliminated. While van Gerwen still leads the table, Wright is in last place with just one win in nine games.

The series, in which only eight top players are represented each year, is held over 17 weeks at different venues. The last two match days are the play-offs, before that the players have to collect points in the weekly mini-tournaments in knockout mode.

Record winners are van Gerwen and darts legend Phil Taylor with six titles each. So far there has not been a German participant.
