Izan Guevara will not race in Portugal and Argentina due to a wrist injury

MADRID, 22 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish pilot Izan Guevara (Kalex), current champion of the Moto3 category, will be absent at the premiere of the Motorcycle World Championship this weekend in Portimao (Portugal) and at the next Grand Prix, that of Argentina, because of a wrist injury.

As reported by the Aspar Team this Wednesday, the Balearic rider suffers “an injury to the triangular ligament of his right wrist” and will not be able to be in the first two races of a year in which he has promoted to Moto2.

Guevara completed a total of 218 laps between the pre-season tests in Jerez and Portimao, but was unable to ride at a steady pace close to that of the leading drivers, suffering from pain in his right wrist. Tests he underwent this week revealed “findings consistent with chronic compartment syndrome and a lesion in the triangular fibrocartilage of this wrist.”

The replacement in Jorge Martínez Aspar’s team will be the Spanish driver Jordi Torres, who thus returns to the intermediate category with a structure with which he has already competed in 54 Grands Prix between 2011 and 2014.

The young rider from the Balearic Islands will undergo surgery this week and has four weeks of recovery ahead of him that will prevent him from making his debut in the Moto2 category until, at least, the Grand Prix of the Americas on April 16.
